This chess board is different because it has no concept of 'a game', you can share one board position with 20 people, who can all make different moves, and you can play those moves, or they can send them to others and so on. Think of it as a constantly forking communally random chess game.

The board doesn't know the rules of chess, so you can make illegal moves, or play variations, or cheat, or whatever.
