Verti-Go

A collaboration with my nephew, Dominic, for the Ludum Dare 30 Game Jam. A first person platformer with an interesting gravity-inversion mechanic.

Verti-Go

The theme for the jam was "Connected Worlds". I brainstormed with Dominic (who was 14 at the time) and he came up with an idea where the connected worlds would be the two sides of a platform. And the connection would be something you stand on to turn the world around and invert gravity. It is a neat idea, somewhat reminiscent of VVVVVV, but in 3D the disorientation would be a more interesting factor.

I handled programming duties, and made a couple of the 3D models, but the level design (the bulk of the interesting work!) was handled by Dominic. Sound, and textures we worked on together.

I was pleased with the way it came out. There are some moments of brilliance in the level design, even though it is perhaps too hard as a whole. I'm excited to see if Dominic continues to think about games.

The game was created in Unity, using Substances.
